Des Moines, Iowa Another State Capitol While staying at the Timberline Camp-
ground in Waukee, IA, we experienced
mostly wet weather. We did get a break before leaving so we could visit the State Capitol..  This is one of the more magnificent capital buildings.  It has a gilded gold dome, many types of marble, carved woods, and historic images on the walls created with small tiles.  The building was completed in 1886  It housed the old Supreme Court Chambers, which was moved to a new building.  The old
chambers is now a meeting room.
Our tour was with a group of grade school children who were very well behaved and focused, asking questions of the guide.  One student noted that his Uncle was a member of the Court.
This brought home the fact that most of the members of the Senate and House of Representatives were folk whose regular jobs were barbers, teachers, doctors as well as lawyers.  This is refreshing after the lawyer run Eastern States.

Well, here we are, it is April 30th and we are again in Independence, MO. We are parked at Campus RV Park, owned by the Community of Christ Church. This time we toured the World War I Museum, which was exceptional! Bob and I really felt we got an education here on World War I at this Museum. We also visited the Harley Davidson Assembly Plant. This city is soaked in history with the santa Fe Trail, the Mormon Trail and the California Trails all going through here.  The Truman Library is also here, all of which we saw the last time we were here.
